  I only came in for a breakfast roll, but ended up having eggs on toast.
  The coffee's also not bad.
  
  Cheery service and reasonable prices, and they're open early on a Sunday morning - that'll do nicely.

  We started using this gem of a place on a recommendation and I'm passing that on now. The home made, fresh food is outstanding and the selection changes daily, im just gutted I'm not in Edinburgh more often to work my way through the menu lol but i can recommend the full breakfast, steak pie and macaroni cheese so far. John and Michelle are such a pleasant, friendly, helpful couple who make you so welcome which makes Thistles one of the places i can hand on heart happily recommend to complete strangers and friends alike knowing they will agree with me after they've tried it for themselves.

  Staying a few days in Edinburgh can be exciting, but not a thing could make it more homely than Thistles Cafe. I'm a picky eater with a few allergies, so when I walked by and right on the window it said gluten free breakfast, I was convinced. Indeed upon asking the owners and staff of the joint if i could have vegetarian and gluten free, I was delighted by their clued-in responses. I didn't have to ask any more clarifying questions, nor did they ask me questions like "is there gluten in eggs?" like many staff at cafes I've been to before. I would fly from California to eat this breakfast, and it would last me the entire trip back! Come here and try a full gluten-free vegetarian Scottish breakfast for no extra price than the normal full breakfast. Six stars, hands down.

  I give Thistles a 5 star rating as the cafe is lovely, bright and modern inside, the staff are polite and friendly, the breakfast rolls hit the spot and its all cheap as chips. I would highly reccommend.
